American Idol 10: Scotty won

Yesterday Scotty won the American Idol season 10 . Here is the video of one of his performances in the final, singing the new single " I Love you This Big".

Scotty and Lauren are in the final. I think Scotty will be the favourite to win it - he seems to perform better in the faster songs. I also think my computer tv audio isnt very good so probably that is why some of the singing doesnt't sound as good as it should be.

Jacob went home this week but I felt that he was actually not that bad with his cover of "No Air". I thought he was better than the other two girls but possibly his cockiness may have let him down in the voting. I think he was moving in the right direction in song choice (once again J-Lo seems right with her comments) . "No Air" sounds more current.

Overall Scotty was the best this week as James got a little too emotional with the second song - which may not have helped him in the later stages of the song.

I agree with J-Lo that James has been the most consistent of the top 13 singers and could win it. However it may have been different if Chris Medina was still around. Scotty and James did well on Carole King night so it could be a Scotty versus James final.

This was one of the weaker weeks of the show - mostly due to song choice I think. Haley was the winner in that area (for best song choice that is) with her cover of " Rolling In The Deep" and it was a good performance too- possibly the best of that day.

Stefano went back home this week even though " Closer" was one of his best performances. Funny that Jimmy Iovine mentioned the word begging, as this week I was thinking that Stefano sometimes sang like he was begging for votes.

Scotty was probably the weakest this week but I guess his fan base managed to keep him out of the bottom three.

This week was also quite good though not as good as the last one. I didn't think Paul was the worst one. The surprise performance was by Casey. " Nature Boy" is not a very catchy song but he sang it well. James was the other "risky" performer with " Heavy Metal" (not a very catchy song as well) but I thought he covered it well too. Scotty went back to singing country music and did a good job this week again.

Strange that Haley whom I wrote was the weakest one last week was the only one who was criticised this week but I dont think she was the worst one this week either. If I were to pick a bottom three - it would have been Jacob, Lauren and Stefano (the dark horse this year).

This week was much better than the last one. I could not really pick a bottom three this week as almost all the performances were good. Possibly Haley was the weakest one. Best performances were by Casey and Scotty.

Elton John Week was mostly a low key affair for the singers. Although Lauren Alaina did do a good cover of "Candle in the Wind", I still preferred the Elton John's version for Princess Diana.

Thia Megia went home this week even though she did a good cover of "Daniel". For this week, thought the bottom three should have been Casey, Stefano( the dark horse this year) and Naima.

For Motown week, Scott McCreery and Paul McDonald were the ones to watch.

Here is the video of Scotty's cover of "For Once In My Life". I think it is a very good country version of the song and it is well arranged.

This week was quite good - the best since the Beatles week. I thought Paul McDonald , Pia Toscano and Jacob Lusk did very well.

"Where Do Broken Hearts Go" is one my favourite Whitney Houston songs and Pia did an uptempo version of it which worked well. Here is the video of it.

Badminton - All England 2011

Chong Wei won the All England Badminton defeating Lin Dan 21-17, 21-17. This is considered as a breakthrough win for him as he has not beaten Lin Dan before in such a major tournament. For the last few years, the doubles pair of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong have been the ones to watch but in the last few months things may have been different.

Malaysia has been quite a strong force in the the Thomas Cup for the last few years even though we haven't won it since 1992. For the Thomas Cup, it looks like our weakness lies in the second and third singles.

Looks like Chris did not get a wildcard. I was actually hoping to see more of Rachel Zevita too but she did not make the top 13.

Stefano Langone had to sing in the wildcard competition before getting into the top 13.
I thought he sang "Just the Way You Are" by Bruno Mars well enough to be in the top 10. Here is the video of it.

There is a possibility that Chris could get a wildcard. Seems like he is much missed from the show. Thia Megia could win it too. There is some cheekiness about this 15 year old (heard she is 15 not 16 but not too sure about that) . She would probably try every trick in the book to win it. The other person that could win it is Stefano Langone. He is this year's dark horse.

If Chris comes back, he may be the favourite to win it. Here is the list now.

Chris Medina did not make the top 24 while James Durbin went through. Chris has just released a new single " What Are Words". Here is the video of it.

There are spoilers that Chris Medina is not in the top 24 . Also, there is some controversy about some comments James Durbin made a few months before the competition.

James Durbin did better this time in the group auditions but his group did not do that well. It was the group after his one that did really well. Here is the video of " The Minors".

In the Hollywood week first episode, James Durbin did not do that well. Think he went off key towards the end of his song. He probably did much better in the groups as I read from the spoilers he made it to the top 40. It also looks like Chris Medina deserves to win it as well. So I more or less disagree with one of the writers that these two don't deserve to get through.

The San Francisco auditions were the last ones before Hollywood week. I thought Inessa Lee was not that bad in her audition but she did not get through. This is a funny girl- she has released an album with the word "me" in all of her songs and guess what the album is called.

On a more serious note, this year it looks like the show has really saved the best for last. The story of James Durbin is one of tragedy and adversity . Here is the video of it . This year it seems like he is the one that deserves to win it.

Many of the the auditions in Los Angeles were not good but I was quite impressed by the cover of "Lean on Me" by the Guttierez brothers. Here is the video of it.

The fifth episode featured auditions in Austin. There was an audition which reminded me about Julie Dubela who sang off key in her audition some time ago. However, Julie was not given a second chance to try again. Hollie Cavanagh was given a second chance and almost messed it up as well. She finally got herself together to sing the chorus well enough to get through to Hollywood week. Here is the video of it. Apparently the spoilers are out and according to them, she got through to the top 40.

I fell asleep and missed the first 15 minutes of the fourth episode.

The fourth episode featured auditions in Nashville. There is talk from one of the judges that the best singer in this season could be in this episode - the 15 year old Lauren Alaina. There is also a touching story behind her singing. Her cousin, Holly who was suffering from a brain tumour, inspired her to sing. Here is the video of it.

Funniest audition for that episode was probably Latoya Moore' s one. I remembered there was a Latoya some time back in Idol who could really sing. Here is the video of it.

I was surprised in the third episode that J- Lo said no to the 15 year old girl called Emma. However I still think American Idol is probably the best thing J-Lo has ever done since the movie Selena.

I thought the funniest audition was the person dressed as a soldier in 19th century America - Nathaniel Jones. The person after him Mason Wilkinson is also quite funny as well. Here is the video of it.

In this episode, I was most impressed by the singing of Steve Beghun - the big goon as he would joke about his surname. Here is the video of it.

The second episode featured contestants from New Orleans. Funniest audition was by Gabriel Franks. Here is the video of it. He is meant to be a Steven Tyler lookalike but actually looks more like Mick Jagger in a comical way.

There is now a bit of controversy surrounding Paris Tassin - that she is not really a single mother of a special needs child - that she is actually married. Anyway as the story in the show goes, she was pregnant at 18 and not ready for it. The doctor told her that the child was not normal and probably would not survive so she was advised not to have it. However she decided to have the child and turned out to be the best thing she ever had. Here is the video of it.

Watched the first episode of this season yesterday. Funniest audition was by Yoji "Pop" Asano. You can watch the video here.

As far as I know Oriental men have never done very well in the competition. The women have fared better with Jasmine Trias coming third.

Best singer was Robbie Rosen with his cover of "Yesterday". Here is the video of it
